What Makes Life Happy?
5 Simple Rules To Be Happiness!
Hi Everyone,
What would you say is your happiness zone? What makes you Happy? I find, that for me, I am a basically happy person. Even in my times of sadness, I have been able to also have happy moments. Seeing a certain color, like yellow or purple (my favorite color), can make me feel happy!
Happiness is that feeling that comes over you when you know life is good and you can’t help but smile. It’s the opposite of sadness. Happiness is a sense of well-being, joy, or contentment. Some people feel happiness when they are successful, feel safe or lucky.
When you laugh, you release a happy hormone called oxytocin. It’s a hormone that uplifts us as we share experiences with others. Even just making yourself smile will put you in a better place. Just seeing flowers blooming in my garden can bring a smile to my face.
What makes YOU Happy?
There are some external things that can make you feel happy:
- Spending time with family and friends.
- Taking in some breathes of fresh air, especially after laughing.
- Helping someone else.
- Giving or getting a big hug!
- Listening to music.
- Being thankful for the small things in life.
- Soaking in the sunshine, a natural dose of vitamin D.
- Getting some good sleep (many of my friends say that a nap makes them feel better).
The story below is a repost that I found to be one of those necessary truths! It was told by a nursing home worker, that shares some secrets to happiness.
This 92-year-old, petite, well-poised, proud lady, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o’clock, with her hair fashionably coiffed and makeup perfectly applied, even though she is legally blind, moved to a nursing home yesterday. Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary.
After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready. As she maneuvered her walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of her tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on her window. “I love it,” she stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy.
“Mrs. Jones, you haven’t seen the room …. just wait.”
“Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time.
“That doesn’t have anything to do with it,” she replied. “Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn’t depend on how the furniture is arranged, it’s how I arrange my mind. I already decided to love it. It’s a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice;
I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do. Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I’ll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I’ve stored away, just for this time in my life.”
“. . .deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories“
She went on to explain, “Old age is like a bank account, you withdraw from what you’ve put in. So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories Thank you for your part in filling my Memory bank. I am still depositing.”
And with a smile, she said: “Remember the five simple rules to be happy:”
- Free your heart from hatred.
- Free your mind from worries.
- Live simply.
- Give more.
- Expect less, & enjoy every moment.
“Happiness is not a goal…it’s a by-product of a life well-lived.”
~Eleanor Roosevelt~
When we fulfill our function, which is to truly love ourselves, and share love with others, then true happiness sets in.
